GM&O train #4, The Limited, had just arrived at Chicago Union Station, with E7 #101A in the lead. On Track 22, the Midnight Special was preparing to leave on its last run to St. Louis. With its sleeping car service terminated in December 1968, its RPO gone, and most express service disappeared, there was no need for an overnight train on this 284-mile route. However, of the four railroads that had overnight St. Louis trains (C&EI, GM&O, IC, and Wabash), GM&O’s lasted the longest.” Chicago Photo by Joseph Petric -- source link
