horses-in-art-history:artistsanimals:Title: Galloping HorseArtist: Carl WahlbomDate: 1846Medium: oil on canvasSize: 39.5 x 61 cmSource: Goteborgs Knostmuseum Carl Wahlbom was interested in animal studies and made many, such as Galopperande svart häst also called Galloping Horse. A horse in a flat out gallop as shown here was a motif popular with the artist Gericault, but Wahlbom presents it differently. The gleaming black horse fills the surface of the painting with its violent movement but also with its weight and volume. Here the horse’s form has attained a monumental appearance.(Loos, Viggo. 1949. Carl Wahlbom. Malmö: A.-B Allhems Förlag.) -- source link
