foryourownbosom: foryourownbosom: revolutionary-demosthenes: foryourownbosom: “oh we playin autumn dayswon’t lay down our heads till the day is wonwon’t stop running till we reach the sunchasing all the things that are keeping us young.” a doodle of henri and john as little kids !! john had an older brother before him, henry jr. the first (or as some of us like to call him, henri), born in 1753 that passed away very young somewhere in august of 1758. i wanted to draw these boys and a picture from john´s childhood times for some wholesomeness, so here they are looking at an ant colony :D “In 1755 the first daughter to survive infancy, Eleanor, whom the family called Nelly, was born. Near in age, the three siblings [John, Henry, and Eleanor Laurens] formed a close-knit team of playmates. It was a happy childhood, supervised by loving and attentive parents, marred only by the specter of death. In August 1758 the younger Henry died. His death was Jack’s first encounter with the transitory nature of life, where a loved ones existence seemingly vanished like mist.” - John Laurens and the American Revolution by Gregory D. Massey please my heart has been broken too many times IM GONNA WEEP FJKJGKSDG (i didnt know nelly was born in 1755 according to massey, i always thought she was born in 1758 after henri died, a year before patsy according to her biography smh these family cant get their dates together AAAA-) this changes a lot because i always thought henri and john were the only kids in the family for a while but now i have a new favourite trio of young siblings to draw :> this is confusing me even more because henry sr. talks about them as if nelly and henri had both died on the same month or on dates that were very close in terms of time .he talks about a son of almost six (henri) and nelly (eight) ) -at least from what it looks like to me- but apparently henri died way before nelly? according to the biography he died in 1758, so like, six years before her. so why is henry sr. mentioning them together? i dont need sleep i need answers (or maybe its just me that can´t read properly who knows-) Hmmm I really don’t know. I think it might be possible that Henry is mentioning them together because Nelly’s death brought up Henry’s old feelings of grief over Henry jr? -- source link
