It was the place where Excalibur was forged and kept safe by The Lady of the Lake as well and the last resting place of King Arthur after his final battle. In Arthurian legend, after Arthur fell at Camlann, he was taken by nine sisters (chief of whom was the sorceress Morgan le Fay, to Avalon.
