turn2die:“ People arguing that Keiji isn’t intended to be read as flirtatious/sus. Keiji in the latest 4koma: “I’d like to have you after my meal, Sara~?” *succumbs to his urge to drink her sweat* (it’s just water)” Decided to give in and interact. Also clarify since apparently it’s still too confusing for some people??Nankidai wrote and scripted all the 4komas. He was responsible for drawing them as well for a while, but passed the responsibility of doing the art to one of his friends (a junior from his alma mater). Putting it in the simplest words I can, Nankidai writes the words and directs Yusuke Higeoni on how to draw the 4komas. This means Nankidai is solely responsible for the direction of the 4-komas. More words + sources below:The 4-koma in questionhttps://twitter.com/dailygame_info/status/1331779710376964097?s=20Translation:Sara: Keiji-san, after-meal coffee or tea? / Which would you like? -Keiji: How about Sara-chanー SFX: Heh -Sara: Then, you’d be fine with my sweat, rightー? SFX: Clack - Kai: (Is that really…?) Sara: (It’s just lukewarm water.)Higeoni often commentates on the 4koma after their release. In this case, they showed a screenshot of a message log, in which they talked with Nankidai after this 4-koma was released.https://twitter.com/higelectrick/status/1331784298068754432Translation:Higeoni: So, in the end does he drink it?? Nankidai: He holds out to the very end!! (He drinks it) Higeloni: Antinomy???Nankidai himself confirms that Keiji ends up drinking the cup of “sweat” to Higeoni’s joking tsukkomi. The 4-komas are, of course, exaggerated gag comics, but I always believe them to have a certain in-character base. (versus the manga which is the OOC-est garbage trash fire I’ve ever seen. In my case, I’ve been following it for 15 chapters in Japanese, and I blame the magazine editors.) If you think this is contrary to how the game intends Keiji to be read, you have very minimal understanding of the Japanese fandom or Japanese. None of the JPN let’s players I’ve come across regard Keiji’s behavior as “platonic”. Either its very clearly understood as romantic/flirtatious subtext (95%), or they find him creepy/weird for hitting on a teenage girl. (5%) Frankly, by calling this behavior “platonic”, you’re actually perpetuating harmful misinformation. Don’t get me wrong. People can headcanon or write whatever they want, BUT THAT DOES NOT MAKE IT CANON.The YTTD fandom is especially bad with perpetuating misinformation just because they don’t want to hear it. I’d like people to actually source their information and also stop talking about mistranslations if they don’t know japanese at all. -- source link
