Wonderland Trail | Day 5 | 9.8.19 White River to Maple Creek | 21.3 miles With my longest day of the trip ahead of me, I was planning on getting up a little extra early this day to begin my hike. But when my alarm went off at five and it was still raining, I decided to go back to sleep. Eventually I woke up at 6:30, packed up and got to hiking. I made the steep climb up to Panhandle Gap, which even in the rain and fog was still a spectacular section of trail. This area brought me in the high alpine area, and was able to go right by Sourdough Glacier and some really spectacular glacier lakes. Crossing down the other side, I descended down to Indian Bar, where luckily the sun broke through for a couple hours and I was able to take an extended lunch and dry out my tarp and ground cloth after last nights storm. After my stuff had dried out, I still had ten miles left in my days hike, so I continued down the mountain, back into dense forest. I reached camp around 6:30 that evening, and set up camp for the last night of the trip. (at Mount Rainier National Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2hLtklnJmx/?igshid=rllxwisvxg54 -- source link
