annoyingwizard: Before father married his English bride, she was forever making references to us “needing or getting” the “cane”. We, of course, had no idea what she was alluding to with her unexplained [and unquestioned], arcane references. Due to her persistent criticisms of us, we all but *tuned her out* anyway. But after they were married and she became our *official* mother, not only did we become quite *familiar* with its use and effective application; we didn’t even want to hear it mentioned. It was used {applied} in two ways. For minor offenses, we had it given, bent over, over *one layer of protection*. But If We *really, really messed up*, It was applied to our totally uncovered backsides! I need not mention that, our humiliation and embarrassment at *getting It* was lost in the excruciating pain it imparted!
