annoyingwizard: Seventeen year old, Robert’s first day at Southern Baptist Community School, a newly chartered four year high school with a two year, accredited college program; all approved *faith based* and biblical adherent curriculum; and he got the shock of his life. His mother was recently transferred down here and wanted Robert to get a new start. He had given her nothing but trouble [in and out of school] ever since his father had died; and relating her story and concerns to associates at work, was directed to the school and told they Know how to to handle *hard cases* like your son. After meeting with school officials, she was convinced This was the best course for Robert and his future. She signed all the necessary authorization forms and paper work not knowing how to deliver the *word* to her son about what she had done for him and that he had better have an immediate change in demeanor and attitude if he wanted *life* to go easy for him. The school told her that they had an orientation program especially set up to *explain* the realities and conditions of his enrollment. She just told him in a casual offhanded way, that he should try to be on his best behavior at his new school, because he may be attending the school for a long time; since she signed him up for a guaranteed placement into the college program upon successfully completing the high school curriculum [something they assured her was equally *guaranteed*. The first *shock* he got was because of his past performance in his last school he would have to be enrolled as a freshman but if he excelled he could join sophomore ranks as early as mid-term [but no higher]. That would make him almost twenty one when he was eligible for graduation! The greater shock was when he found out how the school handled non-compliance or *misbehavior*. He was told that as a condition of enrollment his mother was required to fill out the corporal punishment authorization form. It gave the school *the right of a parent in all disciplinary matters*. Put succinctly; if you do not behave and follow All the rules, you Will be spanked and spanked very soundly! His outburst at hearing this, earned him his first detention and a *sample* of what he would get each and every time he made the decision Not to go along with the program. There was one more *shock* awaiting him. It came at the end of his junior year when thoughts of what college he might want to attend. A combination of mediocre grades and the fact that his mother had built up some equity in the schools junior college program sort of made his continued attendance on the Baptist campus most likely. It was then he found out that *the rules* for the college enrollees were very much the same as the those for the high school attendees. and age wasn’t a factor when your status was that of a *student*. Remain disobedient and break the schools many rules - And the *spanking penalty* remains in affect! The college orientation program addressed that very issue. And to his angst, ire and ignominy; the adult freshman was asked to remain behind and [in a replay of his high school days] learn that this college means business! -- source link
