As an intermitent lake, Lake Cerknica, Slovenia, is present for the most part of the year. Connected to underground reservoirs the lake changes size rapidely with heavy rainfalls, often innundating the surrounding land. The changes can be irregular, sometimes the lake does not disappear for several years, sometimes it can remain dry for over a year.
