kickuptheband: Obviously, Bandstand’s closing date of September 17th has saddened us all, but we’re trying to campaign BroadwayHD to film and record it — and they do take requests into account, so the more people that can do this, the better. We’re not just saying this because we love the show, but because it’s important: it’s the first piece of theatre ever to be Got Your 6 certified, it’s the first to show the reality of returning home from a war instead of glamorising it, it covers a wide range of mental and physical illnesses, to name but a few reasons (not to mention the on-stage band playing live, and the Tony-winning choreography!). How to join in:EMAIL BROADWAYHD (customer-service@broadwayhd.com). You can write anything you like, but please try and mention things that make it important for theatre history, as well as any personal connections. If you don’t know what to write, you can use this form. Dear BroadwayHD customer service,Please record Bandstand, directed by Hamilton’s Andy Blankenbuehler, as it’s an extremely important part of Broadway history. It’s the first ever piece of theatre to be Got Your 6 certified, an honor worth of preservation, which means it is true to the veteran experience; many real life vets have seen Bandstand and found their pride in their service once again. It shows the harrowing after-effects of World War II, usually brushed over by media to make it more palatable, and shows a wide range of mental and physical illness, from PTSD and OCD to amnesia, addiction, and chronic pain, all of which are dealt with in a sensitive, honest manner. No other show has done this. It has been nominated for many awards, and won at the Tony (Best Choreography) and Drama Desk (Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Orchestrations) awards. Bandstand might be set in the past, but it shows how veterans today should be treated, and much as the story follows the healing power of music, the show itself has healed so many people struggling with their daily lives.Thank you,[YOUR NAME] COMMENT ON/MESSAGE BROADWAYHD’S FACEBOOK PAGE. Again, you can write what you want, or use something similar to the example provided above. Emailing is more important, but this can also have an impact. TWEET. Social media is hugely important; we also need to convince the producers. Try to get as much visibility as possible - tweet BroadwayHD and producers, but also members of the cast who might see and retweet the message, giving it more visibility. We’re starting the hashtag #RecordBandstand, and please use this with all your tweets! You can write whatever you want, but again, highlight how important the show is, both to you personally, and as a piece. Tweet multiple times, if that doesn’t all fit in one tweet! @BroadwayHD@BandstandBway@TomSmedes (producer)@Paper_Mill@GotYourSix @ABlankenbuehler@DavidKorins @LauraOsnes @NapOnACott @Joe_CarrollMich @BrandonEllis5@JNathanHopkins@Geoffardy@JoeyPero I emailed them and they responded their appreciation but it’s not in the works for the near future.
