During the flood event in Delfino Plaza in Super Mario Sunshine, a manhole appears inside the jail cell in the southeast corner of the town, despite not being there during regular gameplay.Normally, all manhole covers are 3D objects covering up fully modeled manholes leading to a sewer system. However, during the flood event, the ones that are underwater are replaced with simple textures on flat ground, so that most of the sewers could be removed for optimization reasons as they would not be able to be accessed anyway (since opening a manhole requires a Ground Pound, which is not possible underwater). As such, this manhole leads nowhere as it is essentially a picture of a manhole drawn on the ground. It is possible that in an older version of Delfino Plaza, this is how the jail was accessed; when that was changed, the developers neglected to update the flooded version as the sewers were not functional and a cosmetic change would not be a high priority.Main Blog | Twitter | Patreon | Small Findings | Source -- source link
