Cecilia Beaux (1855-1942) was an impressionist portrait painter, one of the most successful artists of her time in the United States. She is mostly known for her portraits of the upper class.She studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, as well as abroad in Paris. She was awarded numerous prizes for her work, such as the Temple Gold Medal and the First Prize of the Carnegie Institute.
