gay-irl:pack your bags… we’re going to Norway… where freedom truly rains. Let’s not give my country too much credit. It was still illegal to be gay until 1972. Last month was actually the 50th anniversary. And gay marriage was only legalized in 2009. And there are still a lot of problemsThis article is from the Amnesty Norway website:Published 26th of June 2020 10:14, last updated 14th of June 2021 12:03Which attitudes do Norwegians have when it comes to diverse love? A recent survey shows that we still have a long way to go. •Every fifth Norwegian thinks it’s uncomfortable to see gay people and lesbians kiss or hug. •Every fourth Norwegian thinks that it’s worse to see gay people hug and kiss than hetero people•There are significant differences between genders: men think that it’s much worse to see gay love/relationships than women do. •Only six percent of the population thinks that gay people shouldn’t get to love the people they want to. The survey was done during the spring of 2020 by Respons analyse (a Norwegian company) on a mission from Amnesty NorwayA total of 1011 people between the ages of 18-87 who are spread over the whole country have participated in this survey. (Obviously this part of the article is specifically towards gay men and lesbians and so doesn’t really mention genders, which leaves out a lot of other LGBTQIA+ people, but it’s a decent place to start)Also, this article says that one in four LGBT people report discrimination. I would translate it, but there is so much formal language in it that the thought of translating it gives me a headache. So discrimination against LGBTQIA+ people is still quite widespread in Norway. And there is also a lot of racism and xenophobia in my country, so unless you are white and western, it will be difficult. Also, everything is very expensive, the mental health system passed the completely failing line a few thousand miles ago, the horrific treatment of the indigenous people (The Sámi), almost all of the politicians are bad, and a lot more bigotry and other problems. Although there is a surprising amount of diversity in the media, but I’m not sure how much of that is genuine and how much is more performative. -- source link
