Cash pours in for Detroit rape kit testing“The national Detroit campaign to raise funds to test rape kits and put rapists in jail, has now received donations from all 50 states including, one for $25,000 from Facebook CEO Sheryl Sandberg. She leaned in. And she wasn’t alone.Carolyn Cassin, Michigan Women’s Foundation executive director, said she has been moved by the donations and volunteers she’s seen since the launch last month of Enough Said, a national campaign to raise money to test the kits and go after suspects in thousands of rapes. She also was inspired by the various ways people have chosen to give."We’re surprised at how much people care about this around the country and from eight foreign countries,” Cassin said. “Since the launch, so many people said they want to be a part of it. Most of the gifts are between $10 and $50.”That year, prosecutors began testing 2,000 kits, leading to the arrest and prosecution of 188 serial rapists. Thanks to federal funding and $4 million in state funding, they were able to test thousands more. The campaign has raised $223,600 since its launch last month – and more is expected from fund drives, parties and from an online crowd-funding page.“NICE WORK!
