Elbphilharmonie: The Futuristic Concert Hall is HereConcert halls, throughout the history of time, have been constructed with grandeur and elegance in mind. But the Elbphilharmonie, the newest concert hall, nestled in Hamburg, beats all the others by many many miles.Despite it being taken 7 long years more to be completed than originally planned, despite the hall costing a staggering $843 million USD, the Elbphilharmonie is worth all the wait and the hype. And why wouldn’t it be? Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron have collaborated with Japanese acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota for this monumental project; the former renowned for designing the Tate Modern in London and the ever famous Olympic “Bird’s Nest” Stadium in Beijing while the latter, famous for the Walt Disney Concert Hall in L.A. And the best part is that these experts have used algorithms to perfect the auditorium’s 10,000 unique acoustic panels! With the capacity to seat 2100 people at a single go, Hamburg’s stunning new concert hall has it panels made from gypsum fiber. Each panel contains one million “cells” which line the ceilings, walls and balustrades of the central auditorium. And when the sweet sound waves hit the panels, the “cells” shape the sound by either absorbing it or causing it to reverberate all throughout the spacious hall. The Elbphilharmonie offers a once in a lifetime music experience and to catch a glimpse of it, view its video here.h/t:boredpanda -- source link
