Tonight I took shelter from torrential downpour in one of Montréal’s many old churches. I was location-scouting at first, but this was a functional cathedral and the songs seems to have changed very little since medieval times. I stayed for nearly the whole service, which was simply a woman who was in a seperate room singing, reading the Bible in French and English, more singing, meditation in the soft, rainy silence, and then very considerate world-events oriented prayers. The only other attendee at the service was a staff member, and being all alone in the candlelight with the amazing acoustics was unbelievably restful. ⛪️ There’s nothing like music to connect you with a culture, and today I felt I enjoyed a beautiful sample of an early medieval experience. Note: I felt the same sense of serenity when I attended mass at the Notre Dame in 2014, except this time it was without other people or a visible person leading the service, and the church was much less adorned. It’s no wonder they call it sanctuary. #christchurchcathedral -- source link
