Something a bit different! These are some of my illustrations for the book series Matka Asgårdiin, written by V. M. Toivonen and published by Aurinko Kustannus. I’ve made the cover art, maps and chapter header illustrations for all the books in the series so far. The third book Ginnungagabin riimut finally came out this spring! I actually drew the cover and map five years ago – the book was originally meant to be released in 2017, but ended up getting postponed until now. Fun fact: designing and illustrating the map of Niðavellir for this book was also the final project in my graphic design degree – my bachelor’s thesis was a study on illustrated maps in fantasy literature. This book series is written in Finnish and falls into the middle grade fantasy category. As you probably notice the novels are heavily inspired by Scandinavian mythology, which has been a lovely subject to illustrate! The first book Fimbul-talvi came out in 2014 and the second book Mimirin lähde in 2016. This is the oldest ongoing book series that I’m involved in, which means you get to see a throwback to my drawing style from the early days. :) -- source link
