SPECULOOS There are now 4 new eyes looking for habitable worlds in the sky: the four 1-m telescopes of SPECULOOS have made their first observations in Chile.SPECULOOS (Search for habitable Planets Eclipsing Ultra-cool Stars, actually just named after the Belgian cookie ) is all about finding Earth-like planets around tiny, dim stars. In future, the atmospheres of the best candidates will be studied with an ultimate goal to find atmospheric gases that indicate life. These more precise observations would be carried out with future next-level size telescopes and @nasa/@europeanspaceagency James Webb Space Telescope.I was at the press conference about this in Belgium and thought to myself: we are entering a new era of discoveries ✨: ESO -- source link
