thebashfulbotanist: Bellucia pentamera (mountain apple, or manzana de montaña, often incorrectly transliterated as “manzana de montana”) is a very interesting and pretty tree that’s native to South America. The flowers seem to bud directly from the trunk of the tree! Unfortunately, mountain apple is also invasive in Indonesia, which is why it’s this Wednesday’s weed. Bellucia pentamera has edible fruits that are sometimes eaten by people in its native range. This particular mountain apple was photographed in Santa Clara, Ecuador. Since mountain apple is fast-growing and prefers disturbed habitats, when spread outside its native range it grows quickly in areas logged by humans, preventing the return of native plants. @life-is-weird-but-okay-then - The fruits are not pictured here. I found a picture of ripe fruits here. -- source link
