I’m documenting this inspirational meeting: here I am with Dr Wendy Okolo (right), an aerospace research engineer from NASA Ames center She has worked in Air Force Research Laboratory and with NASA’s Orion spacecraft. Orion is being built to carry astronautstothe moon and beyond!We met in a summer school in Estonia, where Wendy gave a lecture about the autonomy of small satellites which are a quick, low-cost alternative for traditional spacecraft. We had so much to talk about, and one of the cool facts I learned from her was about real life applications from space research: while developing food supplements for future Mars astronauts, NASA’s researchers discovered a natural source for an omega-3 fatty acid, which is now the main component in baby food formulas as an alternative to breast milk[source].  -- source link
