I took a little to long to post this, I was busy & wanted to make a copy of the pic with a watermark on it. So I entered the 2021/2022 Pokemon card art contest, I drew Galarian Rapidash for it. I attempted to do a shadows of the leaves on their back as they walked around a forest. Due to some issues I ended up finishing this at like 3-4 in the morning of the due date cause the time that the submissions end was around the time my first alarm goes off.* I didn’t make it into the top 300 but I tried my best, don’t do long nights like I did. Weirdly enough it was scrolling through Tumblr & seeing someone post the art they made for the contest that made me realize I didn’t make it to the top 300.(Would have gotten an email if I had)Link to the 300 entries*Context I get up for work at 7:10(my second alarm), I have an alarm(first one) set for 6:00 or so so that I have time to sleep a little but still be awake enough to not laze around in bed due to still being tired.(Also snooze is like 5 or something minutes apart) I get picked up for work around 8:40 or so but it helps to not waste around when I get up & in the past they’ve come around 7:30 or so which I adjusted a little. I get a little sleep on the bus on the way to work & back home, not much but it helps a little. Below are some extra versions I made of the shadow layers for the picture removed.This one is without the shadows on the body, I tried my best to make the lighting of the leaves for the full pic. Still wonder if I did a good enough job.This is the version with all the shadow layers removed. You can see the details of the background better. I don’t usually work on backgrounds except for certain times, I looked at some forest pics from Pokemon for inspirationIf you look you can see I missed spots in the background. Some of this was made with 1-2 layers with some parts shaded/colored on the same layer. I missed spots close to where Rapidash was, I didn’t think much due to being tired & cause the layer for Rapidash was going to hide parts behind them.Rapidash kind of has an umber effect near the ends of parts of their mane/tail & ankle hair/fur(?) cause I was experimenting with colors from the example used for the Galarian Rapidash for the contest. I adjusted the coloring so the berry/blue purple is either the original color or the pink’s shading color. Decided to show the backgrounds in this too. Forgot to mention the light rays, Pretty easy to see just how much got hidden by Rapidash. -- source link
