sinethetamagazine: Vive L’Amour (愛情萬歲). Dir. Tsai Ming-liang (蔡明亮). 1994. Vive L’Amour, Tsai Ming-liang’s second feature film, focuses on three young residents of Taipei whose lives intersect around an empty apartment that they come to inhabit, unbeknownst to each other. The slow-paced, sparsely dialogued film explores the unsettling visceralities of sexual desire, the inadequacies of fleeting relationships, and the shared longing for emotional connection. Vive L’Amour hones Tsai’s signature theme of urban alienation, and with a quiet humor and careful eye, unearths the pains and pleasures of the characters’ lives. Vive L’Amour is considered one of the defining films of the Taiwanese New Wave. The film won the prestigious Golden Lion award at the Venice Film Festival. -- source link
