Illustrations of Roscoe, a pre-internet fandom meme. Roscoe was created in 1947, as a private joke, as “the ghod of fandom.” (Fandom in the past thought it was funny to spell god ghod.) There were religious wars between the devotees of Roscoe and Sam Moskowitz’s beetle god Ghu. Roscoe’s feast day was Labor Day Weekend, so the joke went that all fans celebrated his feast day whether they knew it or not. -- source link
