peteseeger: (art by the lovely @artichuka)Tass Trox held the lightsaber firmly in her hand, looking excitedly at Eshu - Master Eshu, she had to remind herself. Since she had realized her connection to the Force that day in the fight against the Inquisitor, Eshu had taught her much and more of the ways of the Force. The apprenticeship had been unlike anything Tass had ever experienced - and it had culminated here and now, amidst the ruins of Tython’s Jedi Temple, with the young woman holding her own, newly-assembled lightsaber.“Take a good look, Tass,” Eshu told her. “This weapon is your life now. By my right as Knight of the Republic, I name you Padawan of the Jedi Order, and take you on as a formal apprentice. I will teach you all that I know of the ways of the Force.”Tass felt her heart race as the impact, the implication, washed over her. She was a Jedi now. She felt - she knew - that she was part of something now, something older than her, older than Eshu, older than her own ancient and noble family line. She felt a breath at the back of her neck, a ghostly voice whispering that she had taken her first step into a much larger world.“It feels heavier than I thought,” she told her Master. The Twi’Lek smiled somberly. “I should expect so,” came the reply. “It may be that we are the only ones left in the galaxy who still call ourselves Jedi. You now carry the legacy of a thousand generations in your hands. It is a heavy weight to bear.”Tass gulped and activated the weapon. The blade came alive with a snap-hiss, and illuminated the chamber in verdant green light. Tass’s mouth opened of its own accord and her eyes widened as she regarded the lightsaber with almost childlike wonder. Suddenly, she was 16 again, fresh out of the Academy, staring up in awe at the Executrix in Coruscant’s atmosphere, shrouded by the clouds, as she waited for the shuttle to take her up to her new posting. Her parents had been so proud of her - graduating the Academy with honors, top of her class in battle strategy, tactics, and diplomacy, earning one of the most coveted postings in the Empire, Grand Moff Tarkin’s flagship - and Tass had been just as proud, just as excited, to follow in the family tradition and blaze her own trail of distinguished military service in the name of His Majesty the Emperor. Then came Vulpter. Then came Ghorman. And Tass had ran away. She had run for two years, from the Empire, from the navy, from her family - always searching, always seeking something, something always out of reach - the place where she belonged. And now she stood, on sacred ground, the birthplace of the Jedi Order, as a Jedi herself. She deactivated the lightsaber, and as Tass followed Eshu out of the temple to find a shaded spot for them to spar, Tass smiled. She was a Jedi now.She had found where she belonged. -- source link
