Jane Eyre and the Invention of the Self | The Atlantic Unable to find her sense of self through others, Jane makes the surprising decision to turn inward.HAPPY 200th TO MY BEST GAL CHARLOTTE BRONTË Atlantic editor: “damn…how can we relate to the Youth…..they will never care about this book lady and this article needs to go online today….I guess we’ll write an intro sentence about selfies”That aside, and also ignoring the fact that everything they praise Jane Eyre for here is just a watered down version of Villette, but whatever, this is spot-on. And don’t think the complexity of her novels was an accident, either. Read Villette and you’ll see what a manipulative writer she is. She knew exactly what she was doing. -- source link
