So… Star Wars…Quick note before the beginning of this review, I got the pack thanks to the EA Game Changers program (otherwise, I wouldn’t have bought it!). Knowing how controversial this GP is, I will not use its content in my creations. It would bother me if some of you couldn’t use my buildings because they chose (rightly) not to take this pack. And now, it’s time for my review… I will be quick about the CAS and Buy/build content. The clothes are nice, but difficult to use in another context for most of them. The same goes for a large part of the furniture and decor objects, most of them are really great, but as I said in the paragraph above, I don’t think I will use these in my future builds. I had talked about it when the trailer came out, I think we already have enough content with this grunge/industrial aesthetic in game, it’ll be easy to do without the stuff from this pack.Having said that, I’m impressed with the amount of assets that have been created, the result is quite impressive when you visit Batuu. If only these resources had been used for another pack…Now, let’s talk about the gameplay. I only did the quests for the Resistance faction (and some for the Scoundrels), in a game without mods, to test the pack in the best conditions. I spend most of my time walking and talking to people, reading text in the notification window, jumping from one place to another via loading screens, performing repetitive tasks. Also, I had the feeling that my actions and choices had little consequence: I had to fight once or twice with a stormtrooper who wanted to do an ID check, but that was it. They didn’t always react when I was hacking stuff right next to them.Basically, the GP reuses elements already seen, we analyze the control panels like the traps of Jungle Adventure to find the right way to act, the light-saber fights reminds me of the sword fights at Get Famous (although the animations are different), interactions with droids are rather limited (and since we’ve already had small robots in Discover University, it doesn’t bring anything really new). Even the spaceships works like the rocket ship from the basic game (exploration is only text boxes and options to choose from), except that this time there is not even an animation when your sims get in.The world looks wonderful, and could have been a selling point for the pack, but practically nothing is interactive. Most of the building are rabbitholes (except for the Cantina, and the two small and empty faction bases), and there isn’t really any lot to build on. At last, you could use StrangerVille as a normal world after defeating the Mother, it’s not the case this time, Batuu is just a setting for a scripted scenario. Well, I guess you understood how I felt about the pack, I expected to be disappointed, so I’m not surprised. I think these packs with a scripted story don’t belong in a sandbox game at all… if you really want to experience an adventure, other games do it better. As always, they did a great job on the visual aspect, at the expense of everything else. I’m wondering if for the next packs, I’d rather see them focus more on the gameplay, even if it means not offering an additional world (and I’m saying that as a builder !).Or better, simply allocate more resources to the developers so they can do both, we know the game sells well, it should be possible. That’s all for me. I can’t advise you to buy this pack, if you really want it, wait until it’s on sale at least. And don’t forget that if I’m so critical, it’s because I love this game, and I’d really like to see it improve. -- source link
