padawanlost:praetor-canis:padawanlost:“People don’t like her because she is feminine. It annoys me that people only like the feminine characters when they act like male characters. And they always go on about feminism. Like, you’re rooting for the people who look like boys, who act like boys, who fight like boys. Root for the girls who wear dresses and are intellectually very strong.” Sophie TurnerWhy not root for both? They made a deliberate choice to act a certain way, respect their choice. That’s notthe point. I’ll keep this short because we already talked about this here. WhatSophie was trying to say is that women who are portrayed as feminine, romantic,“girly”, who like dresses and makeup, who are soft, etc are more often than notconsidered weak, dumb, futile, etc. She is trying to say women who are “girly”have value TOO and deserve respect. This is about recognizing that the audience isbiased against certain female character and not everyone has realized thatstrong female character means developed female character, not fighter female character.Yes, allwomen deserve respect. Sansa & Arya and Ahsoka & Padmé are all amazing charactersin their own right but we can’t pretend they are treated the same by theaudience or that Sansa and Padmé don’t get a lot more hate because of their “girly”personality. -- source link
