Simone was not an inmate of Roissy or subject to use or abuse. However for her own ‘protection’ she was housed in the women’s wing. She did not feel protected there, she felt imprisoned. To reach her room, the valet had to unlock then doors to the woman’s wing, led her through and then relock the doors. Simone did not have the keys. She could not come or go freely. The keys were kept in bunches at the valets’s belts. Along side the whips they also carried in their belts. -- source link
