They came up from L.A. to check things out.” - Richard Rovere. An early version of the Stardust logotype appears on the billboard and the sign above the general office in these photos, and it appears on other printed matter dating to 1955 when Tony Cornero was building the hotel. This was a few years before the Stardust’s neon sign was created by Kermit Wayne at YESCO. “My mother designed the Stardust logo” Jeffrey Silver, former Gaming Control Board member and casino exec, says his mother Grace Silver designed the type. (On the Corner of Main Street, Ep. 74.) The Silver family moved to Las Vegas in 1955 when his father Benjamin “Bill” Silver was working with Tony Cornero on the hotel. Cornero died in Aug. 1955 amid an SEC investigation into his Stardust stock sales, which ultimately stopped work on the hotel until early ‘58. Bill Silver continued working on behalf of Stardust stockholders and was forced out of the Stardust in ‘57. Grace Silver became a columnist and classified ad salesperson for the Las Vegas Review-Journal. -- source link
