Swimming pool at Ladd’s Resort, Fremont & 11th, Las Vegas, 1920sJames Ladd bought 160 acres “way out in the desert” at what is now the area between 11th and 14th Streets between Fremont and Carson. “Ladd’s Resort” swimming pool opened in 1911 near Fremont & 11th. The resort was considered far enough out of town that Ladd provided horse-drawn shuttle service from 5th St. Construction of Boulder Dam in the early 30s brought thousands of unemployed to Las Vegas and Ladd’s Resort became a camping ground and soon fell out of favor.
