the-world-of-erit:A couple boys. More info on These Boys! The one based on Dan (Aurdanilli, the elf) was originally gonna be called Aurdan or Auri for short. But I ran into a problem when writing for him that was intentional although unforseen, if that makes sense?Essentially, Aurapax is the “main” god in the world. He’s seen as the god of light, sun, etc. And while he’s really not above the other gods in terms of magic or what he can do, in most cultures, people tend to gravitate toward gods of that aspect. (See: Ra, Sol, Apollo, etc.) On Erit, years are named after Aurapax. They’re called Aurs, which means “Light Cycle” in more modern elvish languages. “Aurdanilli” also means “Blessed of Aurapax” because his parents prayed to Aurapax for a child and they believed Aurapax granted them a child. Spoiler: It wasn’t Aurapax. ANYWAY, the point is, I was shortening Aurdanilli to Aur or Aurdan, and then I used his named in the same sentence with the word I use to refer to an Eritian year. IE: Aur spent Aurs doing what he loved. Well, shit.I asked myself if I should lean into this and hang a lantern on it in the story or if I should change Aurdanilli’s name. My intent with re-naming the boys from Danny and Arin to Aurdan and Dylin was to actually re-name them. But I found myself with having to consider a new name. Or I could just call Aurdan “Dani” instead, which kinda defeated the purpose? Then I realized if I called him Dani, their show could be called D&D, which is, of course, a reference to Dungeons and Dragons, which I kinda thought was a LITTLE clever. -- source link
