Rita Tushingham & Murry Melvin, from the remarkable 1961 film ‘A Taste Of Honey’, that touched on so many social taboos of the time, such as, under-age sex, interracial sex and homosexuality ( Homosexuality was to remain illegal for for another six years in Great Briton ). But the most amazing fact about 'A Taste Of Honey’ was that it was adapted from a from the début play by the Salford play-write, Shelagh Delaney, a seventeen year old girl from a Salford council estate, who was dissatisfied with the way contemporary theatre depicted the working class and more especially homosexuality. A Taste of Honey was produced when Delaney was eighteen-years-old. Although this play was originally being written as a novel. A Taste of Honey became an unexpected hit, winning several awards both as a play and later as a film.
