Day 11Reflections on: Malignant (2021)Woof. I really didn’t want to watch this but people wouldn’t stop talking to me about it. Multiple people told me I’d like this because it’s “retro” :(Again: wound care is IMPORTANT.This is a Riverdale-quality movie - both the acting style and the look of it. The acting is over the top and cartoonish, like an episode of Goosebumps. The protagonist was like if Sandra Bullock played Wendy Torrance in The Shining (1980).Yet another horror film during which I found myself asking “Is this a comedy?”. I think some people making it may have thought it was?? Zoe Bell plays a character who shows up 90 minutes into the film in a jail cell with a blonde mullet. All the characters in this jail cell are inexplicably cartoonish - like extras from a different movie! Why do Americans wear their shoes indoors?! Shoes on a BED?!?!Why do friends and family members of characters who live in spooky old houses not say things like “Why don’t you get a normal apartment with regular lighting??? This place is a human sized doll house and it’s impacting your mental health. I’m worried about you.”I don’t believe that a Seattle police department is just a bunch of desks in one large room with high ceilings and exposed brick. There isn’t really anything original about this story. It’s been done before multiple times. The premise is about as hokey as something from an old episode of The Twilight Zone. Maybe if I approached this thinking it was a comedy I would have been able to enjoy it. The music is unbelievably bad! -- source link
