Markus: Mak says we can swim in the river by our new house. Gemma: I’m looking forward to it. We won’t have much of this summer left, but there will be plenty summers ahead.Markus: Yep. I had a talk with Mak about you wanting chickens. His in-laws have a good-sized flock and offered advice about starting out.Gemma: Why am I thinking I’ll be waiting a long time for my baby chicks?Markus: [chuckles] Kind of, but not exactly. They recommend not getting tiny chicks leading into autumn.Gemma: [disappointed] Oh.Markus: But they want to give you three mature layers. So, you won’t have to wait until next year.Gemma: [excited] Are you serious? I get chickens as soon as we move in?Markus: [laughs] Not immediately. We need to build a coop, but Mak and his brother-in-law will help. However, there is one more condition.Gemma: What’s that?Markus: The woods and fields are thick with foxes. They recommend getting a dog before getting chickens.Gemma: Markus: I want to take you on a short holiday for your birthday. So, after that we could get a puppy? If you like?Markus: [muffled] I guess you approve of this idea?Gemma: [babbling] I never imagined growing up in that hellhole with Kelly- I never imagined a country home, a wonderful husband, a baby, a cat, a dog, and chickens. Sometimes I’m afraid I’ll wake up and find this isn’t real.Markus: [teasing] I could complain about the budget all of next week, while we furniture shop. Then you’d know it wasn’t a dream.Gemma: [quickly] Yeah, no. You’re not allowed to do that. Markus: [laughs] -- source link
