We’ve lost a legend of sci-fi comics and French bandes dessinées: Jean-Claude Mézières, the artist who illustrated the adventures Valérian and Laureline, died yesterday at the age of 83. Working with writer Pierre Christin, Mézières published the first Valerian story in the French magazine Pilote in 1967. The first standalone volume of the series, “The City of Shifting Waters,” was published in 1970, and four decades later the pair published the 21st and final volume, “The Time Opener.” Mézières also belongs to what we consider a pretty special club, as one of the comics creators whose work appeared in Heavy Metal #1, April 1977. Here’s the splash page from that story, “Space Punks.” . Au revoir, Mézières, et merci. . #jeanclaudemezieres #jeanclaudemézières #mezieres #mezieres #mézières #valerian #valerianetlaureline #valerianandlaureline https://www.instagram.com/p/CZH5UQ3OG0_/?utm_medium=tumblr -- source link
