The Jedusaur Model of Fannish Feelings: a schema I created for my @bitchinparty panel on fandom feel
The Jedusaur Model of Fannish Feelings: a schema I created for my @bitchinparty panel on fandom feelings (positive examples in blue, negative in red):internal canon: feelings about characters and narrative within their fictional contextmeta canon: feelings about the canon in a larger contextinternal fandom: feelings about fanworks alone, or as they relate to canon meta fandom: feelings about fanworks as they relate to each other, or about fannish communities(I don’t think I represented that last category well in my examples–I intended it to cover fandom tropes and such in addition to social stuff.)this is not intended as a set of boxes to fit every feeling into; in fact, many of my fannish feelings encompass multiple categories. it’s useful to me as a way to conceptualize conflict between people whose feelings lie primarily in one part of the grid or another. e.g. some people want essentially more canon but with explicitly queer relationships, others love a canon by interrogating it or exploring how it could be different, and a lot of drama in fandom arises from misunderstandings or conflicting values between those sets of people.I’d be happy to hear how others see this, or what other models might do differently! -- source link
