After the rebellion forces were defeated, Ling Song didn’t have anyone else left in the world since his family was murdered in the process, and his only lifeline was Wen Yuan Chu. But days as a country’s ruler was not easy, and Wen Yuan Chu as prince regent made all the major decisions, turning him in to a puppet emperor of sorts. In the beginning, Ling Song didn’t mind this one bit and was extremely reliant on Wen Yuan Chu, but Wen Yuan Chu always seemed cold and dismissive of him. Ling Song’s heart grew colder day by day, and when his advisors and teachers around him lied to him and said that Wen Yuan Chu was vying for the throne and would one day overthrow him to replace him, he believed it. He tried to bring Wen Yuan Chu down with his advisors but was unsuccessful, and then was given poisonous wine to drink, supposedly given to him by Wen Yuan Chu.When he sees someone who looks exactly like Wen Yuan Chu, he’s determined to avoid him at all costs, but Wen Yuan Chu seems to be nothing like that cold prince regent - the boy is friendly to him, generous, kind, and seems to only have eyes for him. They end up together, and then he slowly finds out the truth of those years and that Wen Yuan Chu never hated him.2. 温元初 Wen Yuan Chu - Was previously a lovesick but emotionally stunted prince regent who never communicated to his little emperor how he felt for him and what he was actually doing for him. He always knew that the emperor’s advisors had it out for him, and were not truly genuine in wanting to push Ling Song into real power. On the day Ling Song died, he was held up elsewhere, and only found out that someone else forced Ling Song to drink poison wine and framing him for it. Devastated, he declares war on all who caused Ling Song’s death indirectly and directly, then transmigrates to their current time as a young boy. As a young boy, he realizes that Ling Song is his neighbour but this Ling Song is not his Ling Song, and while they grow up, although Ling Song seems to like him, Wen Yuan Chu ensures that they never become close, because he’s waiting for his Ling Song to come back. The moment he does (after the almost-drowning incident), Wen Yuan Chu’s attitude and behaviour towards Ling Song changes in everyone’s eyes. This time, as he interacts more with Ling Song and realizes what Ling Song prefers when they interact, Wen Yuan Chu realizes that his mistake was never telling Ling Song what he really thought of him, which led other evil people to drive a wedge only too easily between them in their previous lives. Wen Yuan Chu never praised Ling Song’s efforts in trying to become a good emperor, thinking that it was irrelevant as long as Wen Yuan Chu could protect him, and now, everything that Ling Song does well, Wen Yuan Chu compliments. He’s learning again how to properly be with Ling Song this time.Other Things I Liked in the NovelOne of the sweeter novels by the author so far (she does a lot of gouxie and angst and abo), and it’s touching really to see how far Wen Yuan Chu is going for Ling Song in their second lives together - Wen Yuan Chu has never once not been in love with Ling Song, and it was a huge pity that they ended the way they did in their past livesLing Song jokingly calls Wen Yuan Chu his baba and the ‘joke’ continues all the way until the end even when they get past their history and start dating for real togetherLing Song is pretty much very afraid of past life Wen Yuan Chu and traumatized by the man, so much so that when he first realizes that Wen Yuan Chu is the prince regent from before, he gets a full blown panic attack because in his memory, the prince regent hated him, neglected and disregarded him, and then betrayed him and forced him to die - and because he knows that he was at fault also for listening to his advisors and teacher to plot against Wen Yuan Chu, he always though Wen Yuan Chu was a cruel, unforgiving manThe way Wen Yuan Chu has to win him back is literally *chef’s kiss* and the truth coming to light as well - Ling Song realizing everything that Wen Yuan Chu did for him in both lives -- source link
