fiddleabout:whitepeopletwitter:Just load already! #I did my slow internet time#I deserve fast now Because back in the days of web 1.0 the browser would load a static html page in 5 to 10 seconds and you’d be able to read text and otherwise engage with the site while empty boxen slowly filled with images. Ads didn’t suddenly cause the page to rearrange itself, JavaScript wasn’t rewriting the DOM in real-time. The internet was slow but that limitation forced web designers to optimize the experience. Images were reused as often as possible so that they could be downloaded once and then displayed from cache on subsequent pages. Now everything is tagged nocache just in case the company decides to perform an update while you’re on it. SEO bloats the page with every conceivable search term someone might use whether it’s related or not. I’m old and there is so much to hate about the way the modern web has evolved. -- source link
