Snape was NOT a good person. He was spiteful and a bully. He may have been on the good side, but that was only because of Lily’s death. If Lily had not died, he would still be a Death Eater. Snape spent decades working for Dumbledore in order to keep Harry alive and ensure that Voldemort would be destroyed, and all he asked in return from Dumbledore was that he never be given credit for how much he did or how hard he fought. It is funny though, how even though every one of the books made such a huge deal of how appearances can be deceiving, Mauraderfen refuse to ever accept anything other than the most superficial interpretation where Snape is concerned. (But at least the confessions blog admins waited longer than usual since the last time they broke their rule about not posting confessions like this.) It is NOT that hard to fucking understand, unless you really do lack the capacity for simple reading comprehension.  Holy shit! Let’s not split hairs. The intention of the OP was clear: Snape only switched sides because of Lily. Because of his guilt at being the one to put her in the line of fire after spreading word of the prophecy. Because he couldn’t handle being the reason she might die at Voldemort’s hands. Even though Lily had not actually died before he switched sides, it was her death - the mere idea of it - that was his motivation for switching sides. Ergo, the confession is true.
