rockin-robinz: A Bluebird’s Beginning Robert “Bob” (Kahn) Kane’s Birthday: Dick Grayson (Earth-Two) Today would have been Bob Kane’s 103rd birthday (24 October) – one of the comic world’s most influential comic book writer and artist. He co-created Batman and more importantly Dick Grayson, the first Robin, with Bob Finger, albeit he never really given credit for his work until well after his death. So, I thought it would be apropos to do a photoset of Dick Grayson as Robin at his very first appearance in Detective Comics #38, which was penciled by the birthday boy himself. Dick Grayson was the son of circus acrobats John and Mary Grayson, who death-defying act, The Flying Graysons, who usually perform without a net. Dick Grayson overhears Tony Zucco asking for protection money from the circus, which they refused. So, Tony Zucco sabotages the trapeze to teach them a lesson – one that killed John and Mary Grayson right before their son’s eyes. Fairly soon, Bruce Wayne took Dick Grayson in as his ward and revealed that he was Batman. Together they trained and Dick Grayson becomes Robin and helped bring his parents’ murderer to prison.Imaged Used: Detective Comics (Vol. 1) #38 by Bob Kane -- source link
