cheshireinthemiddle:mightyoctopus: cheshireinthemiddle: alaija: criticalfeminismisbest: “If you support gender equality, then you’re a feminist!” No. Even if I were to entertain the idea that all people who identify as feminists promote gender equality, feminism is just a particular movement geared towards promoting gender equality in a more organized fashion. Some people prefer other gender equality movements for one reason or another, while others may just not like identifying with movements. Even if they don’t participate in as many organized events, everyone outside the pink circle is still perfectly equipped to do things like call out misogyny on their own time. In other words, maybe you can’t be a feminist if you don’t support gender equality, but you CAN support gender equality without being a feminist. This Venn diagram is wrong. Not all feminists support gender equality so it should be shown as People Who Support Gender Equality overlapping with Feminists. You can definitely support feminism and not support equality. If I may offer up this suggestion? I’m deeply ashamed of the ignorance I displayed in this old post. That’s an Euler diagram. -- source link
