Waited a while to post this, but this was my contribution to the @ab-estiary-c zine!I was lucky enough to be able to interpret one of my favorite mythological creature, the basilisk! I wanted to combine a lot of snake and chicken features and ended up with something close to a ‘modern day’ Yi Qi dinosaur. Since basilisks are sometimes referred to as the ‘King of Serpents’ I found a style of rooster comb that looked similar to an actual crown. The feather style and patterns are based on regular chickens (I was going to have all the feather have the same pattern as Sebright chickens, but opted for the feathers near the tail). The colors and patterns are also all based on chickens and snakes that originate in Europe (where the basilisk mythology originated). You can also still buy a copy of the zine for $10 (all profits go to The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee).Instagram I Facebook I Deviantart l TwitterCommissions are open! -- source link
