twdmusicboxmystery:I haven’t talked about this in a while, but it’s just evidence that the sequence with Rick and Negan was a foreshadow of Rick’s time in the CRM. This type of thing with Morgan is what made me think for a long time that Morgan would find Beth. Not so sure that’s the case anymore, but if it’s not literally true, than this, too, was a template/foreshadowing. ***RABBIT HOLE AHEAD!!***This reminds me of the Jacob’s Ladder tree in Fear, which Alicia stumbles upon in her prelude to meeting Wes.I think the painted trees have done a lot to foreshadow Madison’s return. Morgan sees the Phoenix tree, bearing the Madison Clark mantra: “No one’s gone until they’re gone.”(The title of the episode in which Madison “dies” (in flashback) is called “No One’s Gone.”) Now, the Phoenix as a symbol is tightly related to Beth, a la symbolism in the “Still” house, and also the badges the Atlanta PD wear at Grady. In reality, the Atlanta PD badges bear a Phoenix (above left) with the motto “Resurgens,” which is Latin for “Rising Again.” But in-show, they bear a Bald Eagle (above right). Why? Why make this choice, to change the Atlanta PD badge symbolism from a Phoenix to a Bald Eagle? Well, the choice connects the Phoenix symbolism to the Bald Eagle painting in the Still house (above lower), without making the connection too obvious. It also connects the Phoenix symbolism to Grady Memorial, which we speculate could have been an early holding or recruitment facility for CRM research. It also connects the Phoenix symbolism to patriotic symbolism, and to Beth, specifically. The Bald Eagle and the Phoenix also become synonymous here, so every time we see a Bald Eagle, we are also seeing a Phoenix, and vice versa.Don’t forget that Madison is holding a red torch just before she “dies,” which she then tosses into the grass to light the baseball stadium on fire, to save her family. At the end of this episode, Madison presumably “goes up in flames” with the walkers inside. She’s the Phoenix, she burns, but she will “rise again.” Aka: Resurgens.Other connections: The baseball stadium, as the helm of “America’s Pastime,” is a patriotic symbol, linking it to the Bald Eagle symbolism of the Still house, both of which go up in flames–one via Madison, one via Beth. Madison and Beth have many connections. The Phoenix is just one, but it is one of the most potent, easiest to visualize and most intentional, I think, on the part of tptb. Mild Fear spoiler ahead: Morgan is now on a raft, floating to an unknown destination, looking for new life. We know that Madison is returning this season. Will Morgan encounter Madison first, wherever he is going? I guess we’ll know soon. If he does, I think there’s still an argument to be made that, even if Morgan doesn’t “find” Beth first, if he finds Madison, then the prediction still means something, because Madison and Beth have a great deal in common. So even if Morgan doesn’t *find* Beth, that doesn’t mean he wasn’t initially intended to find Beth. It was Gimple’s idea to move Morgan over to Fear. It could be because his story was re-routed to Fear, where he will find the equivalent of Beth. And who knows? Maybe Madison’s discovery will lead to Beth, in some way. Question: Why did they tell us about Madison’s return, so far in advance? I don’t know. Perhaps so we can use that knowledge to look for signs of her return and, by extension, Beth’s return? We will learn much more in coming weeks, but I think Madison’s return could be foreshadowing for Beth’s, or even connected to Beth’s. I know I’m preaching to the choir here. It’s just that sometimes it’s good to remind others (and to remind myself) that none of these things is coincidence. ❤️ -- source link
