toadschooled:If you’re thinking this frog looks unique, that’s because it is. Latonia nigriventer, or the Hula painted frog, is a species endemic to the Lake Hula marshes of Israel. They are the sole living representative of their genus Latonia, and were thought to be extinct for decades prior to their rediscovery in 2011. They are currently considered critically endangered, though the environment surrounding their native marshes has seen ecological improvement in the last few years.
