thesilicontribesman:Forum and Basilica, Caerwent Roman Town, Monmouthshire, 6.5.18.At the centre of Caerwent Roman city was the large forum or open market place filled with shops, stalls, taverns, offices and space for public meetings. Alongside the forum ran a huge basilica, measuring 80m by 56m. This public gathering space was used for official administration, public meetings and ceremonies and featured two sets of Corinthian columns. Both were built in the second century CE, although the Basilica was extensively rebuilt in the third century, possibly because of subsidence. -- source link
