king-of-gilboa: Plate 25. Westphalia, Garde du Corps, Trumpeter, Full Dress, 1809 This impressive uniform was replaced by several frankly gaudy versions—scarlet coat, faced black; scarlet coat, faced white; scarlet coat with black collar and cuffs and seven bars of gold lace across the chest. All were loaded with gold lace. On escort duty a black sheepskin, edged with scarlet “teeth”, was worn over the saddle; trumpeters had gray overalls with a double scarlet stripe. When Jerome left Westphalia in October 1813, 114 gardes accompanied him. All but 30 soon deserted; he sent those faithful ones back home.
