So this is my attempt at Inktobering… as you can see i managed to draw a third of the prompts so far, wow ! Impressive u_uI’m using the official prompt list but I decided to put a botanical twist of sorts to all the drawings. Here are some explanations about my choices, if you’re interested : 1 - Foxgloves are not only pretty, they’re also highly toxic. All the plants parts contain various types of cardiotonic components called digitalin, which can be used as drug or poison, depending on the dose (it’s the murder weapon in Casino Royale, Agatha Christie’s appointment with Death, and at least one Columbo episode). They’re also a textbook case of entomogamic plants : how could bumblebees resist their shape, colors and nectar ?2 - What better than a warm, tasty cup of chamomile to soothe the nerves and leave a stressful day behind ?Yes, please.3 - Ferns are said to protect houses from spells in some folklore. I personaly have zero inclination toward superstition, but ferns are still cute and interesting plants and I’m happy to have one by my window.4 - When I think of roasted coffee beans, I can’t help but think about Shirokuma Cafe anime and the kinda annoying coffee master tree kangaroo.5 - Chickpeas. Actually I thought these grains were called “chicken peas”… I checked before sketching the drawing and realized my mistake, but I still wanted to draw chicken eating chicksomethings, so here they are.6 - Strawberries, but also many other plants, are known to exude xylem through special pores at the periphery of their leaves when they accumulate too much water during the night. This phenomenon is called “guttation”.7 - Acacias are well guarded from herbivorous animals through several mechanisms. Among them, they have huge thorns, and they collaborate with some ants species who will fight the tree’s ennemies no matter their sizes - from pathogenic bacterias to giraffes or elephants.8 - Ginseng is widely used in traditional medicine. It’s supposed to boost your tired body. Too bad I hate its taste… -- source link
