a-gnosis:One of the highlights of my trip was to visit the archaeological site of Eleusis where the Telesterion, the sanctuary of Demeter and Persephone and the center of the Eleusinian Mysteries, once stood. On the side of the cavernous rock stood the Ploutonion, a temple dedicated to Plouton (Hades).By the way, I had the opportunity to talk to a scholar from the Swedish Institute at Athens about the question whether Persephone was absent during the summer or winter. I’ve been quite confused about the fact that while the summer theory seems to correspond better to the Greek climate, the Homeric Hymn to Demeter explicitly says that Persephone returns to earth in spring when the flowers are in bloom. She confirmed my suspicion that there is no consensus about this. The scholars are still debating it. -- source link
