libutron: Bioluminescent mushrooms: Omphalotus guepiniformis A striking shot of clusters of the mushroom Omphalotus guepiniformis (Marasmiaceae), a luminescent and poisonous basidiomycete growing on beech wood. This species is native to Japan and Eastern Asia, and is one of the most frequently occurring fruiting bodies on beech coarse woody debris in cool temperate forests in Japan, where it is known as ‘‘Tsukiyotake’’.
