firmbutfairmatureman: This is the simplest form of the Lochgelly tawse - again XH. I think it is actually the most effective - as you can see it is very thick and quite stiff. As was common practice for an extra severe punishment it can be soaked in water increasing its weight and punishing power dramatically. It needs to be used with some care as the weight of the impact can cause the rounded end to break the surface of the skin causing weeping - rather like a graze - staining knickers. The woman can be bent over a chair or desk for the belting but in fact lying flat on the bed is probably the most satisfactory position for a belting - and more akin to the sort of punishments administered in Scottish homes. -- source link
